Petbuds Max C40 Review: An Automatic Litter Box Built for Big Cats

There's no shortage of automatic litter boxes on the market, but very few are genuinely engineered around the sizing and weight needs of large breed cats. Petbuds Max (model C40) was developed after we kept hearing the same feedback from Maine Coon and Ragdoll owners: this review walks through the thinking behind the design and how it performs in practice.

Why we built a bigger litter box in the first place

Before developing Max, we heard consistent feedback from QClean and Pro customers: owners of Maine Coons and Ragdolls generally found the existing range "workable but a bit tight" — their cats could use the box, but turning and digging space was limited, and heavier cats sometimes triggered weight-sensor misreads. That feedback is exactly why Max exists: get the fundamentals of space and weight capacity right before adding anything else.

Core design: four specs built around large breeds

1. 13.5kg weight capacity

Max's weight-sensing system supports up to 13.5kg, a figure verified through repeated testing with our manufacturing partner. Adult male Maine Coons average 8.2–10kg, so even larger individuals are left with a genuine safety margin — no "borderline weight" misreads.

2. A larger interior chamber

Compared with standard-sized litter boxes, Max's interior has been specifically extended in length and height, giving cats enough room to complete a full turn, dig and eliminate without being crammed in.

3. A bigger waste bin

Large breeds and multi-cat households produce more waste, so Max is fitted with an oversized, sealed waste bin, with a recommended emptying interval noticeably longer than smaller models.

4. Low-entry design

For senior cats or those with reduced mobility, Max's entry height has been lowered to reduce the strain of stepping in and out.

A note on manufacturing and branding

Max is produced by our manufacturing partner UBPET, a factory with established production experience in automatic pet products. We were closely involved in the sizing and structural design during development. Some early pre-sale units may carry UBPET branding alongside Petbuds branding on the packaging — this is a normal part of the supply chain transition, and future batches will carry full Petbuds branding. The specification and quality control remain consistent regardless of packaging.
